CALL FOR PAPERS
The 26th Annual Harvard East Asia Society Conference
Mirrors: Contemplating Asia
Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA
The Harvard East Asia Society (HEAS) Graduate Student Conference is an annual event which provides an interdisciplinary forum for graduate students to exchange ideas and discuss current research on topics related to Asia. The conference allows young scholars to present their research to both their peers and to renowned scholars in relevant fields. All panels will be moderated by Harvard University faculty. The conference will also allow participants to meet others in their research area conducting similar research and to forge new professional relationships.
The theme of this year’s conference is: Mirrors: Contemplating Asia. The committee selected “mirrors” as a motif to invite reflection, introspection, retrospection, discussion, etc. about Asian Studies. That being said, qualifying papers are not limited to explicit studies of the mirror as an object or concept. We welcome schol- arship that contemplates Asia from fresh perspectives while also reflecting upon conventional frameworks and methodologies from various perspectives and disciplines, including but not limited to: anthropology, archaeology, art history, economics, environmental studies, film and visual studies, gender studies, law, linguis- tics, literature, history, philosophy, political science, religion and sociology. Preference will be given to papers which engage with this year’s conference theme.
The 2023 HEAS conference will be held from February 17 (Fri) - 18 (Sat), 2023.
Participants should plan to arrive on or before February 17, 2020.
